How To "Personal Message" on UPOC

UPOC originally stood for "Universal Point Of Contact", but is now just another "Internet Word". The numbers 8762 on a telephone dial have the letters UPOC, making it useful as a "short code" for text messaging.

There are a couple of ways to PM, or Personal Message someone on UPOC.

1) Look at the incoming group message. If the square brackets are around the username (not the group name), simply hit "Reply", becuase the group is set up to send replies straight back to only the sender.

2) Send a message to 8762 starting with the "Dot" character, the "INFO" command, and the Username. Example: ".info ozzie321"
UPOC will reply with the Profile of the user (if it hasn't been set Private) as if it were sent directly by the user. Reply to that message, and it will be sent as a PM. (If there is a Dot character in the name itself, this will not work due to a bug in the system)

3) Send a message to 8762 with the username, the ":" (colon) character, and immediately start your message. Example: "ozzie321: thanx 4 the PM info". The user will get a PM from you, and their Reply will come directly from them. At that point you are in private communication (PMing) with the user. Just send "Reply" after that.

4) Visit http://www.upoc.com/profile.jsp?handle=username on a desktop computer. Replace "username" with the username of the user you want to send to. Enter your message in the text box, and click "Send".

Because there is PMing, you should never give your actual phone number out over UPOC. Especially to a Group. Once you get into PM with someone, you can give them your number if you feel you can trust them. The problem is, there are some people prowling UPOC that are worse perverts than I am!

If someone starts bothering you on your phone number, you have to get your phone number changed. If you get bothered on UPOC, you can Reply to their message with ".block username" so that any message that person sends will not reach you. This protects your privacy. If they change usernames, and still bother you, send a message to the username "Monitor" and explain the situation. They can kick the person off UPOC, and bar their phone number from getting back on the service.

Well, I hope this has been helpful. If so, try Method 3 and send "ozzie321: thanx 4 the PM info" to 8762.
